Where GIScience meets image processing.
Object-based image analysis (OBIA) is a Z_GIS branded strategy for advanced image understanding, pooling methods and techniques from remote sensing, image processing and spatial analysis. The approach gained international attention and widespread use in various application fields.
Structural, temporal and hierarchical features are utilised to effectively exploit the inherent wealth and complexity of information residing in imagery and other continuous representations of spatial phenomena.
We work in a multi-scale and multi-purpose application environment, dealing with the challenges of data and semantic interoperability, automated classification, and multi-temporal change assessments. New issues arise on the exploitation of ‘big Earth data’ in the context of the Copernicus Sentinel programme.
